Start with the direction of the transfer
Downloading a game uses download speed. Backing up photos to a cloud service uses upload speed. Enter the appropriate measured speed; the two may differ. This tool estimates time and does not run a speed test or access your files.
The units matter: 8 bits = 1 byte. A 50 Mbps connection corresponds to 6.25 MB/s before any allowance for overhead. The file-size field uses decimal GB, where 1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes. If your file manager shows GiB, multiply that size by 1.073741824 to enter decimal GB.

Choose the throughput input carefully
Leave throughput at 100% when the speed you enter already reflects actual file transfer. Reduce it only to model the share of a connection available for this transfer. Applying an extra reduction to an already measured rate would count the same loss twice. The 80% row is an example assumption, not a universal network efficiency.
Server limits, Wi-Fi conditions, other users and changing speeds can affect completion time. Installation, decompression, scanning and verification may continue after the file has transferred. A faster subscription cannot remove every bottleneck.
