How it is calculated

Annual rent = payment × 52 / weeks per payment; monthly equivalent = annual / 12

Compare weekly, fortnightly and four-weekly rents with monthly equivalents. See the difference between a four-week payment and a calendar-month budget.

Choose the actual payment frequency

Enter 1 for weekly rent, 2 for fortnightly, or 4 for four-weekly. Four-weekly payments occur thirteen times in a 52-week budgeting year, not twelve. The monthly equivalent spreads that annual budget across twelve calendar months; it does not change your due dates.

For example, 300 per week corresponds to 1,300 per month on this convention. Multiplying by four would give a four-week amount instead and understate the annual budget if treated as a monthly rent.

Budget convention, not a prorated invoice

This calculation uses 52 weeks per year. Actual calendar years contain an additional day, or two in a leap year, and particular months can include different numbers of payment dates. Your tenancy may define daily prorating differently. Deposits, utilities, service charges and partial periods are excluded unless already part of the rent entered.

Use the rent budget calculator to compare the monthly equivalent with income, and moving costs to plan the one-time costs of changing homes.
