INTERACTIVE CALCULATOR

Flooring project calculator

Estimate flooring material, labour, waste and contingency from your measured floor area and local quotes. See which installation costs need a separate budget.

How it is calculated

Budget = [area × material rate × (1 + waste) + area × labour rate + fixed costs] × (1 + contingency)

Build a budget from measurements and local quotes you enter. Use one consistent area unit for quantities and unit prices. No regional prices are invented.

Measure the floor before comparing quotes

Use the floor area in one unit, then enter material and labour prices in that same unit. For example, a price per square metre must be paired with square metres. Add the areas of separate rooms before entering the total.

Waste increases the material quantity only. Labour is calculated on the measured area, and contingency applies to the subtotal. In an illustrative 20 m² room with 10% material waste, the material quantity is 22 m²; the labour quantity remains 20 m².

Check what the quote includes

Ask whether removal, disposal, underlay, subfloor repairs, trims, delivery and moving furniture are included. The calculator cannot infer these costs from your room size. If a quote contains separate fixed charges, budget for them separately.

Defaults are examples, not local market prices. Compare a second material using the same measured area and identify whether its installation quote uses a different basis. For several rooms or different trades, use the renovation budget and keep unlike costs separate.
